About Hike NC

Mother Nature is calling, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is making it easier to answer the call.

As part of Blue Cross NC’s mission to improve the health and well-being of our customers and communities, we’re partnering with the North Carolina State Parks system and others to offer Hike NC: dozens of guided hikes ready to be explored and enjoyed throughout North Carolina.

Hikes are free, family-friendly and open to all ages, stages and levels. A trained guide leads each hike, making it easier for participants to enjoy the outdoors and explore some of the best natural beauty North Carolina has to offer.

Hike NC is the next chapter of Get Outside North Carolina!, or GO NC!, which we launched in 2012 to encourage North Carolinians to go outside and be active.

The partners making Hike NC possible

North Carolina State Parks

In teaming up with the North Carolina State Parks system, Hike NC secured some of the state’s most knowledgeable experts to guide each hike. Naturally, park rangers lead the list.

The parks system encompasses 35 official state parks, dozens of state recreation and natural areas, and hundreds of miles of trails stretching from the mountains to the coast. In honor of its 100-year anniversary, the system is hosting a 100-Mile Challenge. Participants will log 100 miles of activity through hiking, biking, paddling, riding, swimming and more. Are you up for it? Sign up and track your miles. Find out more here.

Friends of State Parks

Since 1972, Friends of State Parks, Inc. has worked as a private-sector nonprofit to promote and advance North Carolina State Park system goals. This network of local groups is dedicated to raising money to supplement government funding, organizing volunteers to support educational and maintenance programs, and advocating for improvements to state parks. Some of the organization’s own trail experts will be leading Hike NC hikes.
